well, the reason i wanted to contact you, is to tell you that i think your drawing of barry manilow is fabulous! i did a search on google for "drawing" and yours popped up. i was stunned.... there he was... barry manilow... and there was just something about the drawing that caught my eye. you see, i am a graphic designer by trade, but i am also involved with a group of friends in an art collective named "i love you baby".

about us:

"i love you baby" is a collective of artists from all media who, on wednesday nights, gather together to draw and paint. we have varying skill levels and educational backgrounds and that diversity is what we value most. the idea that you can paint with a musician, yell at a sculptor, embarrass yourself in front of a performer, or just have a beer with a photographer is the reason we do it.

our main focus is not so much the finished artwork, as it is the quality of time spent together creating the artwork.

ANYWAY, the reason im sharing all of this with you is that we included you in our group without you knowing! i printed out your barry manilow drawing, and made it a project to see if any of us could draw the same drawing as good as you did. the results were great... only one person came close... the others ended up looking like bad drawings or cartoons,... one even looked like hillary rodham clinton!

I'm honored to be included in your group, although just in spirit ! I'm sure there will be many good drawings among the results of your project. I know Barry is on friendly terms with Bill Clinton but I doubt it if he would like to look like Hillary....or the other way around ! lol

So i have a few questions for you...

So here are some answers to your questions:

1. did you use a photograph for the source image or did it come from memory?

I did use a photograph for the source image. Can't draw very good from memory. Hey, I'm not perfect ! lol

2. if you used picture, would you be able to send us a jpeg?

3. what made you decide to take the time to make such a detailed drawing of barry manilow?

I hadn't drawn for over 30 years.....getting married, bringing up my daughter, having our own business, lack of time, no inspiration, etc.....who knows, but Barry's face inspired me to draw again, only made 2 (Barry)drawings and that was it !

4. if you can remember... where were you, what time of day and what kind of music were you listening to when you made this drawing?

At home, in the evenings, what kind of music was I listening to.....Barry Manilow of course !

5. how long have you been a barry manilow fan?

I've been a Barry Manilow fan for 10 years now. I'm 60 now, so that makes me a "late bloomer" ! They say that life begins at 50 so there must be any truth in it ! lol
I saw Barry first "live" in Frankfurt, I was overwhelmed by his talent as a musician, singer an entertainer and the rest is as they say " history" ! You can call me a "big" fan, as I'm from Belgium and I just returned from Las Vegas to see ONE concert. In two weeks I go to England where he performs "OneNightOnly" at "Blenheim Palace" !

6. did you take drawing classes?

No I never took any drawing classes.



when i get all of the drawings scanned, i will send them your way. at the very least you will get a good laugh out of it.

Please do, I look forward to seeing all those drawings and I don't think they're all that bad !!

Now I have a queston for you ! Are you a Barry Manilow fan ? Because you went to the ManilowModems site I guess you must have some interest in him and his music.
